This information is based only on Lapland, as it is the only part of Finland I have been to. This is perhaps more expensive than other areas of the country, due to the pricey activities. Obviously allow more time if you’d also like to visit Helsinki and the rest of the country.

Akaslompolo (Lapland)

Reachable via Kittila airport (also known as Lapland airport) Akaslompolo is an absolute winter wonderland! Covered in snow for the most part of the year, this place is full of winter activities such as downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, husky-sledding, snowmobiling, reindeer rides… You name it, they’ve got it! There’s also the Snow Village in the neaby town of Lainiotie which houses the biggest igloo in the world. Inside, you’ll find a hotel, bar, restaurant and chapel all made of ice and snow! For a hefty fee, you can even stay overnight. Around Akaslompolo there’s plenty of scenic walks up and around the mountains. If you’re climbing up a mountain, be sure to take a sled to ride back down!! Of course, one major reason that tourists flock here is to see the northern lights. I wasn’t lucky enough to get a clear night for it, but hopefully you will!
