Kotor Fortress: A Sunset Hike in Pictures
When you Google ‘Kotor, Montenegro’ you will inevitably end up browsing pictures of the town and the bay as captured from the fortress. It is without a doubt the number one thing to do in Kotor.
And while I could tell you all about it, sometimes a picture speaks louder than words. So here are some snaps from my little hike up to Kotor’s fortress. As I got higher, the sun got lower, making for some pretty stunning views.
-Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat. Sunset is an added bonus!
-Allow about half an hour to get to the top at a leisurely pace, with a few stops for photos.
-Take in ALL the views. It’s not just about what’s at the top. The view is constantly changing as you go up and up.
-It’s only €3, but it’s free after 7pm!
–Wear appropriate shoes and clothes. I can’t believe the number of people I saw doing this in flip flops… The path is often just stones and rocks, so you’ll want runners or hiking boots if you’ve got them. Even if you go late in the day, chances are it’ll be hot. Therefore, as you trek steadily upwards, you’ll be sweating buckets. Wear something comfy.
